Welcome to our Music and Worship page! At Hill Crest Baptist Church we seek a Biblical approach to worship. Our first goal is to choose music with Scriptural lyrics. Music indoctrinates people. Paul says in Colossians 3:16, “teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.” Paul is encouraging music in a corporate setting because it teaches and admonishes. It drives home a message like no other form of communication can. In this verse Paul admonishes us to place great importance on the message of the psalm, hymn, or spiritual song. Second, we find arrangements that help to enhance participation. At Hill Crest we believe that a church service should include a great amount of audience participation. It should not be a spectator sport. The purpose of this time is to “set our minds on things above.” We accomplish this through various styles of music. Earlier we quoted Paul from Colossians 3:16. In that verse Paul uses the terms “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs”. These terms covered a variety of different types of music used in public and private worship. Paul’s point seems to be that it is in a variety of different ways we give God praise. Paul was aware of these different styles of music and encouraged the church to build one another up through the use of them. As a result, our music service at Hill Crest is “blended” in style. We have music ranging anywhere from the latest contemporary artists to the older, more traditional hymns. Our music services are led primarily by an approximate 100 voice choir (and the help of a stage team for hymns). Instrumentally we are diverse. We use anything from violin and oboe to drum set and electric guitar in our 25 piece orchestra. All of our music is live, with the exception of a few vocal solos that occur during the service.
