Deaf Ministry Page

Because of our tremendous desire to reach the unsaved and non-churched, we believe that the deaf in our community should be no exception.  All of our services are interpreted for the deaf. We sincerely want to effectively communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a group of people who we feel have generally been left out.  It is not that they need the Gospel more than any other people, but they need the Gospel presented to them in their own language - - the same as any other culture or people-group requires.  The deaf ministry is a unique ministry requiring the learning of a language and people who interpret and teach deaf people the Bible.  It is delightful because of the joy of seeing them saved and becoming mature Christians in the Lord.

God’s Word tells us “For God so loved the world” (John 3:16).  The “world” also includes deaf people.  God is not “willing” that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9).  Deaf people need to know the gospel of salvation and they cannot understand the church service unless someone interprets for them.

The great commission includes deaf people-Go ye therefore and teach all nations…” (Matthew 28:19).  All nations include all people regardless of race, language, population or culture.  This world includes deaf people.  Someone needs to “GO” to deaf people.

The deaf world can bring glory to God – “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty…that no flesh should glory in his presence…let him glory in the Lord (1 Corinthians 1:27-31).”  When deaf people sing, pray, and serve the Lord it touches the hearts of others to see what God can do.

When you reach one, you reach a family – you will be reaching some people to whom no one else has ever taken the gospel.  “How can I (understand), except some man should guide (or interpret for) me (Acts 8:31)?”  Deaf people can reach other deaf people, families and friends.

Deaf people need to be disciplined – “go… and teach all nations.”  Deaf people should be taught to reach other deaf people.  Who can best reach the deaf?  Naturally, another deaf person.  Someone needs to teach and disciple them to help fulfill the great commission.

Deaf people have a life and soul – “for all have sinned” (Romans 5:12) “and as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).  Because they have lost their hearing, they do not need to lose their soul.  The great need of deaf people is not to hear but to be saved.  Someone must sign for them!

Because the Lord had time to help a deaf person – “and they bring unto him one that was deaf” (Mark 7:32).  The Lord took time from his busy life to help one deaf man.  He cared for one deaf person.  If Jesus helped one deaf person, so should His church.

xxBecause the Lord chooses people to go to the deaf – not everyone is called to work in the deaf ministry, but God does call some to use their hands to be his voice for deaf people.  God sees the need of all people in this world and calls different people into different ministries as it pleases Him.  “But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him” (1 Corinthians 12:18).  The deaf ministry is a “called” ministry the same as missionaries.  Someone must learn their language and world and “go” into the deaf world.  Has the Lord touched your heart for the deaf?  If so, please contact the church office.
